How to: disable your browser's pop-up blockers

Pop-ups are windows that appear automatically without your permission. They can vary in size but usually don't cover the whole screen.

Some include windows that continually reopen when the user closes them, pop-ups that blanket the desktop with banner ads and cover the entire usable space, or pop-ups that keep reappearing, spawned from an offscreen or hidden window. Probably one of the most annoying is the pop-up window that appears suddenly and blocks the user's screen, with no visible way to close the window.

A pop-up blocker is a program that prevents pop-up windows appearing. By default all browsers have pop-up blocker turned on. The Institute uses pop-up windows to deliver our supports. For you to access our services properly we need you to turn off pop-up blocker for our site. Below are details for the most common internet browsers on how to add an exception to your pop-up rules to allow the Institute's site only open pop-up windows i.e. you can turn the pop-up blocker off for the Institute site only and block them from other sites as required.

The following includes steps for disabling pop-up window blockers, if you are unsure about what browser you are using you can use the external: http://detectmybrowser.com/
