About the event

The briefing will look at developments since the last briefing; EU case-law such as the McFadden and Breyer cases before the CJEU and also discuss litigation before the Irish Courts. It will also look forward to upcoming judgments and the publication of a replacement for the ePrivacy Directive. The main subject matter of the briefing will be an examination of what discretions the GDPR allows Member States and will look at how these might be implemented in the forthcoming Irish Data Protection Bill.

About Presenter

Denis Kelleher, BCL, LLD, BL is a recognised expert in the field of data protection law, author of Privacy and Data Protection Law in Ireland (Bloomsbury Professional, 2nd Ed. 2015), the leading Irish text, and many other publications.  He’s a Senior Lawyer in the Legal Division of the Central Bank of Ireland.  Previously, he held the posts of Legal Counsellor in the Permanent Representation of Ireland to the European Union, Advisory Counsel in the Office of the Attorney General and Junior Counsel in private practice.
