  1. How do I access my CPD Log, Records, Returns and eCPD modules?

Log into My Institute using your membership number and password. Click on your designation(s) button(s) under the My Designations section and for all designations except Professional Banker, Chartered Banker, Certified Bank Director and Personal Insolvency Practitioner this will bring you to the log page for that designation. The log displays your required, recorded, remaining and returned hours for that designation. For Professional Bankers, Chartered Bankers, Certified Bank Directors and Personal Insolvency Practitioner when you click on the designation(s) button(s) this will bring you to the designation portal home page and from there click on the CPD button or elect 'Log' from the CPD tab. 

  1. Can I print out my CPD log of hours and recorded events?

Yes. You can find instructions to do so here. The print outs can be used in CD reviews with your manager.  

  1. How do I apply for a reduction in CPD hours?

If you are out of work on long term sick leave (2 months or more) or on statutory leave e.g. maternity leave you can apply for a pro rata/reduction in your CPD requirement. Complete the CPD hours adjustment form which you can download from the CPD Downloads/News tab in the CPD section of My Institute. 

Please note a pro rata/reduction does not apply for short term illness, career break etc.

  1. A pro rata/reduction has been applied to my CPD hours.  Do I still have to do one hour in ethics?

No. When a pro rata/reduction is applied you do not have to complete an hour relevant to ethics in the year that the pro rata/reduction is applied.

QFA, RS CPD members and CPD members are also not required to complete at least 1 hour relevant to each category that they are accredited in, in the year that the pro rata/reduction is applied.

Professional Bankers and Chartered Bankers are also not required to complete their requirement in PB Specialist Content and CB Specialist Content, respectively.

Members just have to complete the reduced required hours, but should still keep their CPD widely spread across different topics and should not claim CPD hours for events that predominantly cover the same material. 

  1. How many CPD hours do I get for passing an Institute exam?

This depends on your designation and also the exam that you have passed. There is a document available in the CPD Downloads/News tab in the CPD section of My Institute called 'The Institute of Banking Qualifications and associated CPD hours' that details the CPD hours for each of our qualifications. 

Please note that the hours for exams are automatically recorded for members once the exam is passed provided it is relevant to their designation/accredited status.

  1. Where can I locate the CPD annual update manual?

The manual can be found under the CPD Downloads/News tab in My Institute.

When you have read and assimilated the manual (if relevant to your designation) you must record the accreditation reference number in your CPD record. The accreditation reference number is stated in the manual.

The CPD annual update manual is published around August of each year.

Please note that the CPD annual update manual counts for up to 4 CPD hours but is not relevant to all designations.  

  1. How do I record an external event that has been accredited for CPD hours?

Click on the Record Event tab in your CPD section and enter the accreditation reference number. This number will begin with the relevant year, i.e. 2018, followed by four digits. Then click on Search and enter the Event Date and Venue and click on Submit. To ensure it has recorded successfully, you can check it under the Recorded Hours tab.

Some employers have a list of all their training/courses that have been accredited for CPD hours available internally and this should include the accreditation reference numbers, which you will need in order to record it. 

If the event provider submitted the course for accreditation they will have received the accreditation reference number so you can contact the provider directly or alternatively you can contact the Institute.

You can only return the hours that have been recorded in your online CPD record.

  1. Do I have to record events provided by the Institute of Banking? 

No. If you attend an Institute of Banking seminar, or successfully complete one of our exams, eCPD modules, webinars, or successfully complete the Foundation Certificate, the CPD hours will record automatically in your online CPD log.

  1. How do I get a course accredited for CPD hours?

If you want to have an external event/course accredited for CPD hours you will need to submit the online CPD Accreditation Request form. For further instructions please click here

Accreditation requests can take up to 15 working days to review. However, during the busy period such as year-end this can take longer.

We would advise members to firstly check with their company intranet/training department as the events might have already been submitted and accredited for CPD hours. 

Events must be re-accredited each year.

  1. eCPD modules will not work on my computer/device.

Before you attempt any of the eCPD modules you must identify the device you are using and then click on the relevant link under the eCPD tab for instructions.

Please note that your pop up blockers must also be turned off/disabled. The following link illustrates how to turn off/disable your pop up blocker.

  1. I registered for a CPD webinar. What happens next? 

Closer to the webinar you will receive an email with the tests that need to be run on the computer/laptop that you will be using on the night to log into the webinar. You need to run the test and download relevant software in order to be able to view the webinar. The test should be run well in advance of the webinar start time.  

On the night of the webinar log in to My Institute ten minutes before the start time. On the My Institute homepage you will see the orange Events button half way down the screen (to the right of the Correspondence blocks). Click on the orange button that has the webinar name in it and you will see the ‘Event Home’ page which has a link at the bottom of the page where you click to join the webinar.

  1. How many hours do I need to complete by 31 December?

The minimum yearly requirement for QFA, APAs, Grandfathers, Registered Stockbrokers, LCOIs and FCOI (Compliance) is 15 hours.

The minimum yearly requirement for Professional Bankers, Chartered Bankers, Certified Bank Directors and MCI is 6 hours.

The minimum yearly requirement for CFCPP, CDPO and FCOI (Ethics) is 5 hours.

The minimum yearly requirement for Personal Insolvency Practitioners is 10 hours.

QFA, APAs, Grandfathers and Registered Stockbrokers must complete at least 1 hour relevant to each category that they are accredited in and at least 1 hour relevant to ethics. 

Professional Bankers and Chartered Bankers must complete at least 3 hours relevant to PB Specialist Content and CB Specialist Content respectively, as well as at least 1 hour relevant to ethics.

LCOI, CFCPP, CDPO, FCOIs, Certified Bank Directors and MCIs must complete at least 1 hour relevant to ethics. 

Personal Insolvency Practitioners must complete at least 3 ISI Events/ ISI Online courses and 1 ethics. 

To see what your requirement is log into My Institute and click on your designation(s). On the log page for that designation you can see your required, recorded, remaining and returned hours. 

  1. How do I make an annual return and by when do I need to make it?

The annual return process opens in early December each year. Members must make their annual return by 31 January. To make an annual return log into My Institute, click on your designation(s) under 'My Designations' and then click on the Annual Return tab where you can then make your annual return.  If you hold more than one designation you must make a separate annual return for each designation.

Please note members must complete all of their required hours by 31 December. Hours completed in January will count for that year rather than the previous year.

We will contact you via email and text when the annual returns process opens. A letter will also be posted to the Correspondence section in My Institute.

  1. How I do I know that my annual return has been processed successfully?

An annual return receipt will be sent to the Correspondence section in My Institute and to your email address as held on our records. 

You can also see your returned hours in the Returned Hours row on your CPD log.

  1. I made my online annual return, but realised my recorded hours are incorrect. Can I submit a new return?

Yes, the second annual return will overwrite the first annual return. Annual returns close on 31 January.

  1. What happens if I have a shortfall in hours? 

This will depend on your CPD history. 

If you incur a shortfall for the first time this will be carried to the following year and you will then be required to complete that year’s requirement as well as the shortfall by 31 December. A shortfall warning is also applied to your record and should you fail to meet your yearly requirement again in any of the following 5 years you will lose your designation/CPD membership and be subject to the reinstatement rules as per the CPD guidelines and regulations. 

If it is your second shortfall in a 5 year period then you will lose your designation/CPD membership and will be put into ‘suspended’ mode until you catch up on the shortfall in hours and pay the reinstatement fee of €100. Suspended members are not included in their firm’s Register of Accredited Persons and are cannot advise/sell under the Central Bank’s Minimum Competency Code (MCC).  

  1.  I have a shortfall and as a result I have to complete 2 hours in ethics. How can I do this?

You can do this by completing the eCPD modules, participating in webinar(s) that are relevant to ethics, attending internal courses provided by your employer or external events that are relevant to ethics, or by registering for the Institute’s Foundation Certificate if you have not completed it already.

  1. If I do not have enough CPD hours completed should I still make my annual return?

Yes. If you have a shortfall in hours you are still required to make an annual return. Note you have until 31 December to complete the hours. Following the closing of the annual returns process we will contact you in relation to the shortfall. 

  1. I have recorded more CPD hours than required, can I carry these over to next year?

No, hours cannot be carried forward to the next year.

  1. What does the designation/CPD fee cover?

The designation fee covers the services and supports provided to members of a CPD scheme. Some of the resources include:

  • Online CPD record - to record, track and manage CPD hours and events
  • Access to free online CPD modules via eCPD in My Institute
  • CPD annual update manual (counts for up to four CPD hours for certain schemes)
  • Low cost seminars and webinars on topical subjects
  • Accreditation of in-company and external events for CPD hours
  • Management of annual CPD return, audit and other related services
  • Communications such as hours and annual return reminders
  1. Is it possible to get a refund for a CPD webinar that I will be unable to attend?

Fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

  1. I have received the ratified result transcript confirming that I passed my exam(s).  When will my designation become active?

An invitation to apply for the relevant designation will be sent to you usually within 5 working days after receiving the ratified results. The invitation will usually be sent to you through My Institute and it will detail how you apply for the designation. 

  1. I have submitted the designation application form. When will this be processed?

Applications for designations should be processed within 10 working days of receipt.  Once processed you will receive a welcome letter in the Correspondence section of My Institute.
