Why we developed it

Advancing professional excellence

We believe education is the bedrock of any profession. It grounds people in a common body of knowledge and skills. It builds competence, capability and confidence. It is an essential part of the foundation of professional standards.

We developed the Professional Education Framework, with its new standard of qualifications, as the bedrock for the banking profession. As such, we have ensured that it responds to the industry’s changing business needs, the requirements of regulation and the expectations of customers.

We have also worked hard to make sure it meets your needs to help you sustain and achieve a fulfilling banking career.

It’s what you need in a changing industry

These days in banking, qualifications matter. It’s important to ensure that your knowledge and skills are up to date and the best that they can be. The Framework offers a set of professional qualifications that will help to improve your employability and equip you with the confidence, flexibility and capability to respond to change and avail of opportunities within the industry.

It’s what customers expect

In a recent survey, 70% of customers said they expect their banker to have a professional qualification and that they expect the person they interact with in a bank to be professional, helpful and knowledgeable.

It’s required by regulation

Professional qualifications and continuing professional development are now vital for everyone working in a bank as confirmation of their competency and capability. Under the Central Bank of Ireland’s Fitness and Probity regime there is a regulatory requirement on those working in banking to evidence standards of proficiency. The Framework goes far beyond its minimum competency requirements.
