Executive Education at the Institute of Banking offers a range of specialist director programmes, open enrolment programmes and customised development programmes. These programmes are designed for financial services organisations, business professionals, managers, leaders, and executives who strive for professional and personal growth and to achieve operational excellence and results.
Led by Dr Margaret Cullen, Director of Executive Education, our faculty comprises lecturers with research interests in all aspects of corporate governance and business ethics, as well as technical experts from across the financial services industry. Many of these technical experts are leaders in their field; directing cutting-edge research, consulting for top businesses, advising governments, and most of all, bringing their knowledge and experiences to the classroom. Dr Cullen is research active and lectures extensively on her specialist subject areas of corporate and investment fund governance.
We attract top quality participants seeking challenging, academically rigorous, yet practical executive development programmes. We believe our approach to faculty selection and programme delivery enriches the learning and makes working with Executive Education at the Institute of Banking a professionally rewarding and personally enjoyable experience. We look forward to welcoming you on one of our programmes.
Specialist Director Programmes
Executive Education have developed two specialist director programmes targeted at professionals operating at senior executive and/or director level within banks, investment managers and investment fund boards.
Directed by Dr Kate Cullen, the programme provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of the unique governance issues associated with banks arising from the inherent complexity of banking business models and their risk profile. It also provides an understanding of the duties and responsibilities of directors and the behaviours required from them and well-functioning boards. Inadequate credit assessment was identified as a key contributor to the banking crisis and governance issues in relation to risk will receive particular attention during the programme. Strongly rooted in academic research, theory and regulation, the programme is designed to provide practical knowledge and application.
Executive Education is delighted to offer a new open enrolment executive programme in 2017, Leading With Agility. Leading with Agility is a reflective and practical programme which enables participants broaden their perspectives of the leadership challenges they face and the role they play in them. The programme then supports and challenges participants as they broaden their leadership repertoire to deal with such challenges. Putting the professional development and the personal enjoyment of participants at the centre of programme construction and delivery, we facilitate learning in an intense, exhilarating climate of discussion and debate. Here, ideas are exchanged, challenge is encouraged and people collaborate and build networks. The Programme Director is Eadine Hickey.

The ability of boards of directors and senior executive teams to work together while constructively challenging each other is a business and governance imperative. Certain of the challenges, processual, behavioural and technical, faced by boards of directors and senior executive can be overcome through bespoke training and development at the level of the organisation. Drawing on the technical, business and collaborative experience of our faculty, the Executive Education team is ready to design customised training for boards of directors and senior executive teams across a range of core competencies and skills. We will work closely with you to understand your context, your challenges and your learning objectives. We will create programmes to meet these objectives and to support you in meeting your corporate objectives. Above all, our interventions are focused on creating sustainable, long-term change.
Smart organisations use a coaching culture as a key enabler of organisational performance. A coaching approach to people management can drive a business to new levels of productivity, delivering significant return on investment. In developing and championing future leaders, a coaching approach can support the succession planning objectives of the board board. Executive Education is collaborating with a group of carefully selected executive coaches to facilitate the provision of coaching to banks and financial services organisations.
